Breast augmentation/Revision
A breast augmentation: is a procedure in which either a silicone or saline implant, or a patient’s own fat, is used to augment the breast. This procedure usually takes anywhere from 1 ½-2 hours to perform and is generally done under general anesthesia. When an implant is used, the implant can be placed through one of three different incisions: The incision can be around the areola, which is the pigmented area near the nipple, in the natural breast fold, or occasionally through the armpit. Dr. Nena Deskoulidi recommends the incision to under the breast which is the most common location. Implants may be placed above or below the muscle. Implants placed above the muscle carry a higher risk of capsular contracture, or encapsulation, than below the muscle. This risk is also higher in nicotine users, or if a lift is being done. For this reason, below the muscle is usually recommended. Most implants placed in this manner are done in a “dual – plane”, below the muscle in the upper half of the breast and below the breast gland in the lower half of the breast. Silicone implants are available as round or anatomical. Round implants may be smooth or textured, whereas shaped implants are always textured to prevent implant rotation. There is a presence or concern regarding a rare type of cancer associated with breast implants called ALCL – Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma. ALCL is a rare tumour that can occur in the capsule around some breast implants. The concern for ALCL is due to the textured implant surface allowing bacteria to adhere more easily.
For this reason, Dr. Nena Deskoulidi uses primarily smooth round implants in her practice. The expected life of an implant is approximately 15 years. FDA recommendations are for MRI screening 2 years after augmentation then every 3 years thereafter. This is to detect silent ruptures of the implant which may require further surgery. Dr Nena Deskoulidi prefers doing the operation under general anaesthetic and as a day only procedure. She believe drains are important for draining the pocket. These usually stay in an average of three days. She recommends a sports bra post-operatively which should be worn for approximately one month.
Breast Revision:Women may seek breast implant revision surgery for many reasons: a change in size is desired, rupture of an implant, deflation of an implant, capsular contractures, droopiness of the breasts over the implant, displacement of the implants, double bubbles, rippling over the implants.
In cases of capsular contracture or silicone implant rupture, Dr. Nena Deskoulidi believes that most patients need their breast capsules removed. These are thick and irregularly scarred capsules that often times prevent the breast from being naturally soft and pliable. If a previous implant was placed above the chest muscle (sub-glandular), Dr. Nena Deskoulidi makes every effort possible to place the implant below the chest muscle (sub-pectoral). This reduces the risk of capsular contracture, keeps the breast implant in good position and increases the thickness of the tissue over the implant to reduce rippling. If the implant was sub pectoral and out of position, Dr. Deskoulidi may make a new sub pectoral pocket (neo-pectoral pocket).

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
Your breasts and your body can change significantly over the course of your life. Weight changes, pregnancy and even just time itself can cause your breasts to droop, sag and deflate. This process is normal and is generally due to a failure of the supporting structures of the breast.
A Breast Lift (Mastopexy) can improve the appearance of your breasts by lifting your nipple position, reshaping your breasts and improving fullness in the upper part of your breast create a more youthful and aesthetic appearance.Dr. Nena Deskoulidi often uses augmentation flaps which uses some of your own breast tissue to fill in the upper pole of your breasts for better natural results. Dr. Nena Deskoulidi does not perform skin only mastopexys as these techniques will have an early and a high ptotic recurrence rate.

Breast Reduction
Breast Reduction surgery is a safe surgical procedure that reduces the size of your breasts as well as reshaping and lifting the breast to improve physical symptoms and breast shape.
The basic technique of breast reduction moves the nipple areola complex higher up the breast to a more aesthetic position. The breast tissue is then reduced and the new breast recreated around the nipple areola complex.
There are numerous techniques described for performing breast reductions.
Large breasts can have a significant impact on a patient’s health and lifestyle. Excessively large breasts (macromastia) can lead to several health and psychological issues. These may include back pain, neck pain and shoulder pain, poor posture, difficulty in exercising, the inability to buy clothes or a bra that fits properly, recurrent skin irritation below the breast crease, or even shoulder indentations from bra straps.
You may be a candidate for breast reduction surgery if you have any of these symptoms and you are physically healthy, a non-smoker and maintain a healthy weight.
Scars are placed around the areola and extend down vertically from the areola to the lower breast fold. The incision may need to be extended horizontally and concealed in the lower breast fold in large breasts, in an “anchor” shape. This is a very worthwhile operation with the scars being very acceptable. Patients are universally very happy. There is not a lot of pain and downtime is minimal.

Gynaecomastia (Male breast reduction surgery)
Gynecomastia, or the enlarged male breast, is a common condition that affects up to 70% of men. Gynaecomastia is a medical condition that affects men in which their breast tissue becomes enlarged, forming what looks to be female-like breasts. It can occur due to hormone intake (steroids or medications), excess alcohol or marijuana use, testicular tumors, liver dysfunction, obesity or can be idiopathic (unknown causes). Whatever the cause, the result is the formation of breast tissue below the areola.
Although gynaecomastia can affect men of any age – including newborns, pubescent boys, and adult males – it is most commonly seen in older men due to hormonal imbalances or other underlying health issues. Gynaecomastia Surgery involves the removal of fat and glandular tissue from the male chest. Sometimes this is combined with excision of skin and repositioning of the nipple. This is performed to restore a masculine shape to the chest. Liposuction is almost always incorporated as an adjunct.
Why Choose Dr. Nena Deskoulidi for your gyanecomastia surgery?

Inverted Nipple Correction
Inverted nipples are irregular shapes where the nipples point inwards instead of projecting outwards. The condition can affect one or both nipples and may be present at birth or develop over time. There are various grades of nipple inversion based on the severity.
Grade 1: The inverted nipples come out fairly easily by applying little coercion or by gentle manipulation.
Grade 2: The inverted nipples are able to be pulled out but go back as soon as they are released.
Grade 3: The inverted nipples are not able to be pulled out.
These are different operations described to deal with inverted nipples depending on their grade. Depending on whether a woman is of child bearing age and would like to breast feed or if she is considering bearing children, different operations are considered. In some cases, inverted nipple correction surgery may affect breastfeeding.
